I don't believe...

Hi friends! Sorry for the hiatus-- I've been feeling kindof uninspired lately. Work has been kind of crazy, so my brain is just tired. Wanted to link up with Kathy today though for Humpday Confessions! For this week's confession, I've made a list of things that I don't believe in. Feel free to send hate mail. :)

Vodka and Soda

I don't believe in "cleanses." I do believe that your liver and kidneys are all the cleansing that your body needs, otherwise our species would have died off a long time ago. (unless, of course, your liver or kidneys aren't working. in that case, you have bigger problems-- problems that a few days worth of juice isn't going to fix.)

I don't believe that everything happens for a reason. I do believe that humans have an amazing capability to adapt to whatever comes their way in life.

I don't believe in buying a fast car and then driving slowly. I do believe that if you're driving a Porsche and I'm passing you in my minivan, you're doing it wrong.

I don't believe in God (obviously). I do believe that amazing things happen and that there are logical explanations for all of them (even if those explanations aren't understood at the time or ever).

I don't believe that being an atheist means that my life has no meaning or that I have no moral compass. I do believe that my life has more meaning, because I know that this life is all I have and all I ever will have, and I should make the most of it. I also find the argument that people would all be murderous thieves if there wasn't a deity to tell them not to specious.

Oh I do believe in Neil deGrasse Tyson
I don't believe that work should be about "finding your bliss," although there are days when I desperately wish that was what it was about. I do believe that your job shouldn't make you miserable, but it pretty much stops there when you're a grownup and have to worry about things like paying bills and health insurance.

What do you not believe in?

  3. omg YES to cleanses. but i need to get rid of 'toxins' WTF. do you understand your body? but i keep that to myself... haha.
and hells to the yes about that fake guy in the sky. Don't believe in him either! I was raised that way, and in a different country where religion is not as important or common as it is in the US, I just think you should be a good person. I don't need a god to be the reason I don't steal or kill people. Plus science, so yeah.

  4. YES to all of this!!! Love it. I might have to steal this idea for a post of my own some day. Also, I so wish that Indianapolis wasn't so far away, because I feel like we would hang out and knit and kvetch all the time! :)

  5. I love this post, so no hate mail from me ;D I don't do cleanses, but I know that drinking more water helps a lot! I won't do a juice cleanse or detox. Also, YES to buying fast cars and driving slow. Ugh.

  6. No hate mail from here either ;) Could not agree more about the religious stuff. I might be an atheist, I might not (I really don't care enough to call it anything to be honest) but I basically share all your same sentiments.
