if at first you don't succeed...

...rip it out until you get it right.

That's how I felt yesterday when I started on my mom's birthday shawl. [Side note: I wholeheartedly agree that shawls are pointless, but she asked for it.] I've had issues with lace knitting before, and this was no different. Even though the "lace"-ness of it doesn't really start until later in the pattern, it still kicked my ass. I frogged the first 6 or so rows 4 times before I finally had my epiphany, and now, on try #5, I'm finally starting to cruise along.
