getting fit vs. getting skinny

I've been on this weight loss journey for about 3 months now, and I still haven't lost 10 pounds yet. While I'm disappointed about this, I'm not nearly as disappointed as bodymedia is.

Oddly enough, though, I'm not as disappointed as I thought I might be. My whole adult life, I've been a yo-yo dieter. I count calories, severely restrict my intake of food, lose weight, get tired of counting calories, eat lots, regain the weight. This cycle is what has led me to my current weight, and I'm not very happy with that.

However, this time is different. My ultimate goal this time is not necessarily weight loss, although I certainly have the weight to lose. What it's really about is getting healthy so I can be a good baby incubator and a good mom. As far as that goes, I think I'm doing a really good job so far. I'm eating more healthy food and less bad food, and I'm exercising more and regularly. I'm really proud of the progress I've made on the exercise front in the past 6 weeks or so. I still can't go as far or as fast as some others can, but I'm going a lot farther and a lot faster than I could a couple of months ago!

Exercise is really starting to become part of my routine. Believe me, no one is more surprised by this than I am. I think having the treadmill in the living room really helps. It takes away all the excuses. Even if I just walk on it for awhile while watching TV, that's better than sitting in the recliner! Of course, I still need to learn how to knit while on the treadmill... ;)

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think I've finally realized that this journey is more about getting fit and getting healthy than getting skinny. Sure, hopefully some (or a lot) of this extra weight will come off eventually, but even if it doesn't, I'm still doing good things for myself.

(p.s.- a special thanks to Meagan and Ashlye for helping me start. you guys are the best <3)
