come on baby, make it hurt so good

Alright, so this is what I broke my no-spend January for:

The Grid foam roller by Trigger Point Performance

Initial impression? Ow, OWWWWW, and woah. For you runners/exercisers/couch-sitters who have never used one of these, I highly recommend it. First of all, although it's hollow in the middle, my fat ass could sit on it without even eliciting a groan (from the roller, not from me. I was doing plenty of groaning.). Second of all, holy crap. I found this infographic on another blog (which seems to not be updated anymore. boo.) and did all of the lower-body rolls.

I was groaning, moaning, and generally hollering loudly-- ESPECIALLY on my calves. That surprised me, since my calves haven't hurt in weeks. Once I was done, though, I got up off the floor, and I felt like a million bucks. Seriously, it was like my entire lower body had been re-energized.  I'm definitely going to keep doing this on my run days. Totally awesome.

As a side note, I did my fastest-ever 5k after work yesterday. Average pace of just over 14 minute miles. (Again, not fast, but fast for me!) I'm feeling like a rockstar this week!

  1. Just started following your blog through the No-Spend January challenge (which I am failing at horribly, for the record)!

I have that foam roller and it is AMAZING. I love/hate using it because all I want to do after a run is sit on my couch, but when I force myself to do it I feel so much better. I actually read recently that foam rolling for 10 minutes a day is better for you than getting a monthly massage!
